Nobutaka Machimura is a well-balanced policy maker. He started his career in the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) followed with twenty years of extensive experience as a member of the House of Representatives. Getting recognized for his political contribution, he also served as a cabinet minister twice during the Mori Administration.

Nobutaka Machimura has gained his broad international exposure through his experience living abroad: first, as a student during college; second, as an expatriate of JETRO to New York; and most recently, as the state secretary for foreign affairs. He is an effective international negotiator, thanks to his strong command of the English language.
His competence in English has been revealed at the United Nations general assembly, the Dabos World Economic Forum in Switzerland, and lectures delivered at the UC Berkeley campus.
