Basic Principles

Building a nation founded on democratic fundamentals - characterized by humanism embedded in our Japanese heritage

Throughout the last century, Japan has been pursuing the path of "industrialization" with the goal of achieving and surpassing Western practices. It is not an understatement to say that this goal was achieved by the 1980s. Since then however, we have entered the 21st century unprepared for this new era.

Since the end of World War II, strong influences of the government including "a big government", "over-regulation", "over-centralization" and "over-emphasis on equality" have begun to show its adverse impact on the country.

With Euro-American trends toward freer markets and the adoption of neo-conservatism, Japan must also reinvent itself with the ideas of "a smaller government", "deregulations", "decentralization" and "a shift from a society of equal profits as result of policy to a society of equal opportunities."

While the new changes have been in place, the overall pace of change has been slow and results are yet to be achieved. We must accelerate the process to achieve our goal and this is where firm political leadership is required.

Given the current prevalence of globalization, we must create and maintain our own distinctly Japanese policies reflecting our unique heritage and values in planning our own nationfs future.
